Sulphur-free natural gas continuing to run its successful course

Symrise GmbH und Co. KG was on site at the gas and water industry's largest conference and trade fair, the gat, which was held in Dortmund on November 11th and 12th, 2008. Its booth featured Gasodor® S-Free, the world's first and only sulfphur-free odorant for natural gas.

“The conference showed us that our product Gasodor® S-Free fills a market niche and has proven itself in everyday use,” as Jörg Müller explains, Global Category Manager for gas odorization, Scent & Care.  “Gasodor® S-Free, which is a top-quality sulphur-free product, fulfills high standards when it comes to environmental compatibility, safety, cost-effectiveness and technology.”

Since it was first launched in 2001, the sulphur-free odorant has demonstrated its outstanding properties in numerous supply lines. For example, in 2008 the German states of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg implemented Gasodor® S-Free on a wide scale. By the end of 2008 Symrise will have achieved a share of some 20 percent of the German odorants market.

The global demand for Gasodor® S-Free is continuing to grow. The first Chinese natural-gas providers have been using the sulphur-free odorant since last spring, and there are also plans for it to be used in pipelines in other parts of the country. “The years of intense R&D work in conjunction with E.ON Ruhrgas in Essen and the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water have really paid off for our product. We are convinced that sales of Gasodor® S-Free will continue to develop positively, and many of the successful conversations we had at gat confirm this,” as Jörg Müller says.

The gat conference and trade show is organized by the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water as well as by the German Association of Energy and Water Industries. Some 3000 experts from the field of natural gas and 150 exhibitors representing providers, manufacturers, service companies, institutes and public authorities met in Dortmund  to discuss key issues about the future of the gas industry.
